What is a Handicap?

How do I establish a Handicap?
To have a handicap score, you need to be a member of a golf club. A golf club is an organization of at least ten individuals that have a regular opportunity to play with each other, that operate under by-laws, that provide for peer review and have a Handicap Committee. So, a golf club can be anywhere either at a public course, a private course, or even a neighborhood.

What should I do if I do not play a hole or don’t play it under the rules?
For handicap purposes, you should record par plus any handicap strokes for those holes not played

What scores are acceptable for handicap posting?
Because it is assumed that you will try your best at every hole, almost all scores are acceptable, including: 18 holes, 7 or more holes , scores on all courses , and scores in all forms of competition.

What is a slope rating?
The Slope Rating is used to convert a Handicap Index to a Course Handicap, which allows you to receive the number of strokes you need to play down to the Course Rating for that particular set of tees.

How do I keep track of my Handicap?
There are many versions of handicap tracking software available. Your club should be able to assist you, as well. They might be able to tell you what other clubs use or if they provide any type of handicap calculation services.
