Basic Explanation of the Putter
Golf Basics April 30th, 2007A standard set of golf clubs consists of three woods (the 1-driver, 3, and 5), eight irons (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and PW), and a putter — twelve clubs. The rules of golf allow you to carry fourteen clubs in your bag. What is a putter and how is it used?
A putter is the only golf club with one purpose and one purpose only – getting the small ball into the little hole. After you’ve spent all of your time swinging at the ball with as much gusto as you can gather, now you need a smaller, specialized club to gently send the ball into the cup. It’s time to “putt for dough!” The putter is used on the green, and there are many varieties to choose from. Select the putter that feels right for you – it’s may be the most important club in your bag!
