Third Win For Roberts
General News February 19th, 2006With a score of 14-under-par 202, Loren Roberts became the first player to win the first three events of the Champions Tour season. Playing at the ACE Group Classic in Naples, Florida, Roberts was tied with Brad Bryant and Don Pooley when they entered the final round.
However, after a birdie at the first at The Club at TwinEagles, Roberts was only tied with Bryant. This eventually led to a 12 foot birdie on the third, while Bryant bogeyed instead, giving a two stroke lead. Hale Irwin, with 44 wins on the Champions Tour on the Champions Tour was able to birdie the first and sixth, eventually going on to also birdie 13 and 15 to tie at minus-14.
However Irwin was in the water on his second shot on 18, and Roberts was able to two-putt for par and win the ACE Group Classic and the $240,000 prize.
