It is currently being discussed that by 2009, the PGA Tour will bring the Presidents Cup to Harding Park. According to PGA Tour spokesman Bob Combs, “A number of sites have been mentioned inside the PGA Tour, and Harding would be on that list. Harding has proven itself to be a good venue for unique, significant events,” he stated.

Previously the President’s Cup has been held in Washington at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. It is slated to be held next year in Montreal. But since the contract between the PGA Tour and San Francisco “calls for five tournaments in 15 years,” holding the President’s Cup at Harding Park during the autumn seems to be the best location. Usually attracting the top players such as Woods, Mickelson, and Singh, the city would have to first approve the President’s Cup as an alternative to the championships agreed upon in their contract.

It is also expected that as early as next year, the American Institute of Math and the PGA might be holding an event at the controversial course at Morgan Hill. Built privately, the Morgan Hill course is restricted to no more than 36 golfers a day and large tournaments are currently not allowed. So far the Institute in Morgan Hill has mainly catered to golfers invited to play the course due to it being built without the proper permits. However, PGA Tour officials and owner John Fry have failed to either confirm or deny this story.
