Highlights Of The Dubai Desert Classic
PGA February 3rd, 2006With the start of the Dubai Desert Classic on its way this week, previous US Open winner Rietef Goosen of South Africa is currently tied with Anders Hansen from Denmark at 13-under 131 as the players ended the second round on Friday. Goosen shot at 67 and Hansen was at 63.
However, two other key players Tiger Woods and Ernie Els have been battling all day to close the gap. Ernie Els is currently the defending champion, with three shots off of 66. Els holds the new record for his 70th straight cut on the European Tour, and is currently 10-under with Jamie Donaldson.
Tiger had a “six at the 18th, his ninth, a double-bogey five at the short fourth and another bogey two holes later left the world’s richest athlete at 11-under par” to trail Goosen and Hansen by two strokes. Commenting on the way he played today, Woods had this to say, “When you throw away four shots like I did, it’s just unacceptable. It could have been a special one.”
However, the second round will continue tomorrow for six players who were unable to complete the round because of the approaching darkness.

The “shoot out” with Tiger and Ernie Els was anticipated excitment that never materialized. I expected Ernie to last longer than he did. I hoped for a three hole closer. We need a tournament with Tiger, Ernie, Phil, Goosen, and maybe the women hater Vijay. That would be exciting. Too bad they don’t all have their “A” games. I’m afraid that Tiger is just too intimidating for them to accept. Also the sponsors would have to cough up an amount for the prima donnas to play. Why not have them at the Battle of Big Horn? It would be fun if they took it seriously. Just a thought.
