OK, I confess… I horde golf clubs! I can’t help it! I was puttering around in my shed the other day and saw the stash. You know, that place in the dusty corner where I collect golf clubs for no rational reason. I probably need help. But I bet plenty of you reading this right now and shaking your head in agreement are guilty too. Am I right?

So what’s up with our inability to relinquish old golf clubs that have outlived their useful days? I have a theory, of course. Golf is a game of memories. Think about it. We all hit what I call ‘blah’ shots - average shots that feel pretty good, go generally where we hope they will, and maybe help us par that hole. Blah.

But then there are those memorable shots. Just reading that, you probably had at least a few of your own come flooding to mind, didn’t you? What else do you remember about that shot? Yep, you remember the club you used. Every time. And that, my golfing friends, is why we can’t give up our clubs! There’s just too much emotional baggage attached to some of those dear old clubs. Nope, we’re not giving ‘em up!

Here’s what I plan to do when the weather is nice enough to play golf again (which will be soon here in Texas). Not my first round, but shortly thereafter, I plan to dig out a few of my most cherished golf clubs and play a round with them. I won’t give a hoot what score I shoot, either. No sir, that round will be all about remembering the glory shots with each of those clubs I take along. See, there IS a use for those old clubs. Somebody tell my wife to stop bugging me to get rid of them.
