What Clubs are in your Bag?
Equipment January 31st, 2006I’m still using my first set of clubs – a “starter” set my husband bought for me for Christmas. Naturally, the set included the three woods – driver, 3 and 5 wood, along with a set of irons, a sand wedge, and a putter.
After golfing for a while, I’ve noticed I don’t have the clubs that a lot of golfers have – a gap wedge, a lob wedge, a 7-wood, of a 3-iron. So, I set about rectifying that situation.
Trying to figure out which club I needed the most was my first dilemna. In other words, which part of my game needed the most help? I settled for the 7-wood because it has more loft, and I tend to end up in the rough somewhere along the way on a long par 4 or par 5. I’ve used my husband’s 7-wood, but frankly it’s too heavy for me. I like using a man’s club, but needed something lighter. I found a Wilson Fatboy – it’s got a larger head and is amazingly light (very similar to my oversized driver, which I love!). Plus, it was on sale and I saved $20.
I came home with my new club, which I’m just sure will turn my game around, and everyone I talk to has a piece of advice about purchasing clubs – you could have gotten it cheaper, you should have your clubs custom made, etc. The one piece of advice I got that I intend to take advantage of is looking for clubs online. A friend told me she gets most of her golf equipment and supplies through Overstock.com. I checked it out, and they do have a wide variety of clubs, mostly for men, along with an assortment of balls and accessories.
I found a putter online, and decided to go shopping to compare the prices. I tried my putter of choice in the store and saw the price, then came home and ordered it. The cost was 50% less through Overstock. I thought I’d share the info with everyone. If you find a similar site, let me know too!

I too am finally adding or replacing some of my old/original clubs. I just started playing regularly last year. I’ve now replaced my old Orlimar driver with a Nike SQ Tour and my 3-iron with a 22* Nike CPR hybrid. I need to add a 56* wedge (still only have PW and SW). May opt for a new putter too.

That’s really interesting because a friend just bought hybrids Saturday. He typically buys new clubs and then doesn’t like them, so I’m guessing he’ll try to sell them to me by June! Let me know how you like the hybrids. I don’t know anyone who has used them.
