The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship kicked off this week with a strong showing from Vijay Singh. Currently ranked number two, Singh has not played in this region since 1993. This is the first of three of the events that include the Dubai Desert Classic and the Qatar Masters in the European Tour.

There were approximately 120 players that had confirmed they would attend at the beginning of the event, and Singh stated, “With the calibre of players entered, it looks like it’ll be a tough tournament, but that’s how I like them.”

Singh has been hoping to start the new season off to a good start, but he failed to win the Mercedes Championship last week in a playoff with Appleby. However, golf fans will remember his winning streak in 2004, in which he won nine times during the PGA Tou, and spilled over into 2005, where he was declared the winner in at least three tour events. We will just have to wait and see if his winning streak continues in 2006.
