Seve Ballesteros To Play In Desert Classic
General News January 1st, 2006Ballesteros as the “winner of 87 titles worlwide-including three Opens and two US Masters,” is set to play in the 2006 Dubai Desert Classic in February. His return into the PGA European Tour will be watched by many of his fans, as the last time he played in Dubai was in 1994.
He is herald as the “Tiger Woods” of his time, Seve was the first player to earn 1 million, 2 million and 3 million Pounds in earnings during the European Tour. He is also credited with winning the Open Championship during the years 1979, 1984, and 1988, along with the Masters tournament in 1980 and 1983. He was the youngest person to win the Open Championship in 1979, and was the first European to win the Masters in 1980.
The last time Ballesteros won a major tournament was approximately 17 years ago, he inspired many youngsters such as Mickelson to play golf, “I remember I was nine and watching on TV when he won the Masters in 1980. As he was strolling up the fairway on the 18th with this big lead, I remember thinking: ‘I want that to be me someday. I loved his game’, Mickelson said.”
