Golf World’s Top 50 Putters List
General News January 2nd, 2006Golf World has released its Top 50 Putters List. The best putter is determined by the number of putts per greens that are hit in regulation (GIR). For the year 2005, the best putter was Ben Crane on the PGA tour. He has played the tour for the last four years and was “third in putting average and was among the top 10 in three of the other categories as well as 29th in putting from 15-20 feet.” In comparison, Tiger Woods placed 7th on the Best Putters List, but did no place in the top 10 for the “two measured putt-categories”.
When looking at the Total Putting Score (TPS), it was shown that there is a gap between top level players such as Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson who placed 61st and 16th respectively and others such as Sergio Garcia who placed 176th in TPS.
However, what was also notable about the released TPS scores is Michael Weir who dropped to 170th in 2005, from 11th in 2004, probably explaining his decreased tour success.
