While surfing through the television channels yesterday, I stopped and paid attention when I got to the Golf Channel. John Daly was one of the guests on the show, and he was asked to demonstrate his warm-up technique.

John’s technique, or lack of it, was very interesting. We all know the power behind his swing, so I was anxious to gain any tips or tricks from the man. John’s warm-up puzzled me, but after thinking about it, it sure makes a lot of sense.

A John Daly Warm Up:

Hold an iron or chipping club with only your left hand (switch to the right hand if you are left-handed, no cheating allowed!).

Hit a series of ten balls using only the left hand in your swing.

That’s It!

His reasoning is if he can hit a straight ball one-handed, he is more than ready to play the game using both hands! He also cautions against spending a lot of time at the driving range before you play a round - he’s called it bringing your game to the range. It is his belief that the best practice and method of improving is to actually play.

I don’t know about you, but he’s got my interest piqued. I’m ready to try a John Daly warm-up, and see what happens!
