After turning pro and signing two endorsement contracts, Michelle Wie has encountered potential jealously towards the amount of money she is making.

Tiger Woods can relate to this. “I hadn’t done anything on the PGA Tour… and I got big contracts,” Tiger Woods stated. Woods’ story began with him not making the cut the PGA cut when he first tried seven times. However, he tied for 22nd in the 1996 British Open, and Nike signed him up for a $40 million dollar contract due to fact that they saw his potential.

Another player similar to Woods and Wie who received a lucrative contract is Kelly Kuehne, who signed with Nike for $1.25 million dollars for the LPGA tour. At that time Nike was letting go of its LPGA staff, and after Kuehne signed, many of the LPGA players refused to wear anything with the Nike brand in retaliation to signing a rookie. However, Kuehne said things calmed down after they stopped viewing her as a newcomer.

Wie has been in the middle of controversy as well, since she received sponsor exemptions to play at the US Women’s Open and at the Mcdonald’s LPGA Championships.

Overall she is slated to make over $10 million a year. However, many people comment that she has won only one tournament, as compared to Annika Sorenstam who will make $7 million a year and has achieved a grand slam.
