According to an article appearing on pga.com, the European Tour will vote in the New Year on a proposal before them to stop women from playing in full European Tour events.

The issue was raised by Frenchman Jean Van de Velpe, who had a fellow board member present his concern to the European Tour Board of Directors. Based on the decision by the Board of the Directors, the issue will then be passed onto the Tournament Players Committee.

However, according to Thomas Bjorn, both sides seem to have a case, “Everybody has a case for what they are saying. You can understand what Jean is saying, you can understand what the girls are saying.” Bjorn continued to say,”The game doesn’t really differ between the sexes and if the best player in the world was a women, why shouldn’t she compete with men?”

However, Bjorn feels that the true outcome of the issues that have been raised will be decided by money, “If a sponsor wants a girl to play, who are we to argue? They put the money up for us to play for,” he stated.
