Die-Hard Golf Players
General News December 28th, 2005Some people might think this is crazy, but many golfers in Nashville, Tennessee do not hide inside their homes when winter arrives. Instead they ‘don’ hats, mitts, jackets, and use portable heaters to play a few rounds of golf.
According to Sally Davis, manager of the Metro golf course, many of the city’s golfers play year round. Even waiting two hours for the frost to melt before they teed off did not stop golfers at the Ted Rhodes Golf Course. A few of the golfers mentioned that the “trick is to forget about the temperature” while playing.
The most dedicated golf player award should be given to Nate Hill, a resident of Nashville, who once played during a snowstorm, “The worst I’ve ever seen it in terms of while I was playing golf was two years ago,” Hill said. “It was about 38 or 40 degrees Fahrenheit (3-4 degrees Celsius) out and we started playing right before a snowstorm hit. Before we finished, it was so bad that we couldn’t see our ball either on the ground or in the air after hitting it. To compensate, I used yellow golf balls, which helped particularly after the ball landed. But in the wintertime, you can’t worry a whole lot about losing golf balls,” he stated.
Many winter golfers say they enjoy playing year-round because the golf courses are not busy during the winter months.
