Daly-Donofrio and Read Honored By The LPGA
LPGA December 23rd, 2005News from the LPGA this week announced the recent award given to LPGA President Heather Daly-Donofrio.
Daly-Donfrio was given the William and Mousie Powell Award for her contribution as LPGA Tout President. The William and Mousie Powell Award is given on behalf of the late Mousie Powell, a dedicated supported of the LPGA, who was married to William Powell. The award is given in recognition of a player who embodies the true meaning of sportsmanship.
President Daly-Donfrio was surprised to be chosen by her follow players for this award,
I was very surprised because there are so many players who are so deserving of the award. It means a lot coming from my peers. It’s important to give back to the organization and your peers. We would not have careers if not for the LPGA
Also awarded along with Daly-Donofrio was player Amy Read. Read was presented the Heather Farr Player Award.
The Heather Farr Player Award is given on behalf of the late Heather Farr who was a member of the LPGA and died after suffering from four years with breast cancer. The award is given to recognize a player who has showed “determination, perseverance and spirit in fulfilling her goals as a player.”
Read also has been battling Lupus since being diagnosed in 1994, and was happy to received an award named in honor of Heather Farr,
I love golf. I love the people I’ve met; I love the places I’ve been able to go. I’m doing what I love right now. The fact that my peers voted for me means a lot. Heather was great. She was so enthusiastic about everything. She was great for the game. People liked being around her
