New Golfers: A Primer on What You Need
Articles November 3rd, 2005With the tremendous rise in popularity, golf has become a billion dollar industry. Because of this mainstream phenomenon, athletic equipment companies are struggling to find their place in this highly productive market. What does this mean for consumers? With high demand comes competitive pricing. It also means that the equipment has become more stylish. To sum it all up, there is no reason you should not have the right equipment to play a great game of golf.
Where to Shop
For the right equipment, shop inside the pro shop at the golf course. You can expect to pay top dollar for the clubs. Some people prefer to shop inside a pro shop because they receive personal attention. The golf clubs can be customized to fit each individual.
Once upon a time, a man had to be rich and successful to own his own set of golf clubs. Nowadays, the golf bag and clubs are an almost necessity in suburban America. What does that mean for the middle-class man? It means you can purchase golf clubs from any retail store that sells sporting goods, but beware of knock-offs.
It’s not necessary to spend the big bucks on golf shoes and golf balls. You can purchase used golf balls in volume and save a ton. For your shoes, stick with rubber spikes. Most golf courses require the players to use rubber spike shoes verses the old fashion steel spike shoes.
What Else is Needed
Golf shoes have moved closer to mainstream than ever. No longer must you have the multi-colored, wing-tipped shoes with tassels. As a matter of fact, most golf shoes look no different than shoes that are worn from day to day. The thing to remember is that golf shoes are meant to keep a golfer’s feet from sliding when he/she is into a swing. They should fit the foot tightly to prevent injury to the ankle and arch of the foot.
Along with these, consider the correct grips, gloves, balls, and clothing. You want to also keep in mind that you should be comfortable while walking 18 holes. A golfer’s score depends highly upon the efficiency in each and every swing.
Once a player becomes familiar with the weight and effectiveness of each individual club, he will know which to use in specific situations. It is suggested that new golfers take a class that teaches them what clubs to use, how to swing, and golf etiquette. An educational class and the right equipment will make his game improve greatly.
