Jyoti Randhawa, 33 years old and ranked 143rd, is claiming that India has golf talent, but they just don’t have the proper facilities. He says that finances are a big problem in getting Indians, which do not currently have access to many sporting facilities, to participate in golf. His solution is to create more public access golf courses in an effort to get more people playing the sport.

Golf currently has an elitist image in India, and because of this, it is not very popular. However, this image is not without good reason. Being a golfer in India is expensive, and only three players have access to proper facilities.

Public courses should be opened where people can play an entire round at an affordable price. This will be a big boost for the sport. This should be backed by proper coaching and infrastructure. Old professionals should be brought in to teach youngsters. Once we have depth in numbers, competition will automatically improve and standards will be raised.

Even if they did have access to golf courses, the costs of being a pro golfer are also relatively high. The average high level golfer earns between 1.5 and 2 million Rupees ($33,344 - $44,459) a year, while he/she has to dish out 2.5 million ($55,574) every year just for traveling expenses.
