Golf fundraiser raises $40k for hurricane relief
General News October 23rd, 2005You may have heard about the many groups of kids getting together to help the slew of hurricane victims. Recently, golfers gathered together for that same goal. Chuck Curtis of Pelham put together a golf tournament held at Campbell’s Scottish Highlands Colf Course in Salem which raised around $40,000 for US hurricane relief efforts.
The idea came after Curtis was watching a news program about kids who were selling lemonade and donating the money to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. He was so moved watching the children that he decided to put together a relief effort of his own.
Many prizes were donated for the event, including food from Outback and Weathervane. The winner of the contest, Jeff Koester, won two golf trips, a Suzuki SUV, and a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.
This goes to show that truly anyone can make a difference in the hurricane relief efforts. From large corporations to small one man businesses, from golfers to kids, it seems that all types of groups are doing what they can to help out.
