On top of the last landfill in town, Bergen County could see their first new golf course in 24 years. The landfill, referred to as “Mount Arlington” by the locals, towers as high as 150 feet above the city. This height accounts for a great view of downtown Manhattan as well as the “bird-haunted” Meadowlands.

The course, scheduled to open in 2011, will be built on the territory of both Bergen and Hudson counties, and will contain either 18 or 27 holes. Apparently, the green fees will be comparable with all other Bergen County courses.

“I know of the frustrations of getting tee times in Bergen County,” said County Executive Dennis McNerney. “The demand is overwhelming.”

I couldn’t find any information regarding golf courses in Hudson county (the article suggests that there are none), but Bergen currently has four public golf courses.
